Stages

Stage 1

The deliverables for this stage included:

  • Forming a team of 5
  • Completing a team contract
  • Establishing an online repository
  • Creating an online project portfolio
  • Coming up with 3 project ideas
The contract and team formation were all done within the first tutorial. We decided to use GitHub for our online repository. The repository is currently private and thus, cannot be reached at the moment but we will be pushing all things related to our project onto the repository. The online project portfolio was created using html5 & css3 and is hosted using GitHub pages.
Here are the 3 ideas submitted:
  • Online Internship Search Engine
  • Schedule Builder App
  • Informational App for Dog Owners/Lovers

Stage 2

We have officially chosen to create an Informational and Social Media App for Dog Owners and Lovers alike for our group project. At stage 2, we are expected to:

  • Identify our project idea
  • Identify stakeholders and users
  • Conduct two user research methods
Our informational/social media app will cleverly be called Barkipedia and is described as "an informational app that caters to Calgarian Dog owners and lovers! With our app, we expect it to be used as way to find vital information about dog care, discover dog-friendly events around Calgary, find dog services around them, and interact with other users through forum posts and reviews."
The expected stakeholders we have identified consist of:
  • Experienced Dog-Owners
  • Inexperienced Dog-Owners
  • Future Dog-Owners
  • The Calgary community at large
  • Future Dog-Owners
Finally, the two research methods we have chosen to conduct for this project are the Extreme User Interview and Secondary Research. Read more about our research findings by viewing the Stage 2 Report PDF below.

Stage 3

The main focus for this stage was producing a storyboard, video prototype, and finally, the lo-fi prototype of our Barkipedia app. To complete our deliverables, we followed a specific process that consisted of the steps of:

  • Conducting a brainstorming session
  • Collaborating on an affinity diagramming session
  • Selecting and polishing ideas
  • Refining ideas and drawing up a storyboard with our ideas as the basis
  • Creating a video prototype presenting our storyboard
  • Writing out Task-centered Walkthroughs to identify and address problems
  • A written reflection detailing our experience with the stage 3 process

Stage 4

This stage involved generating a Hi-Fi prototype.
The steps taken to convert from the Lo-Fi prototype to the final Hi-Fi prototype include:

  • Convert Lo-Fi to intital Hi-Fi
    • Sketch each page in the app
    • Categorize the pages
    • Assign pages for each group member
    • Create a general template to keep the design consistent
    • Link the pages
    • Discover inconsistencies
    • Add new pages to deal with inconsistencies
    • Repeat the above 3 steps until done
  • Converting initial Hi-Fi to final Hi-Fi
    • Sent heuristics on our prototype to Group 1.3
    • Conducted heuristics on our own prototype
    • Created a checklist based on our heuristics
    • Sorted checklist based on priority
    • Received heuristics from Group 1.3
    • Wrote heuristcs report
    • Added points we thought valuable from Group 1.3's heuristics to our checklist
    • Refine prototype according to checklist, completing based on priority

Stage 5

This was the final stage of the project which revolved around our final version of the Hi-Fi prototype. Additionally, we had to prepare a report and presentation to tie all elements of the project together.
